OREANDA-NEWS. October 28, 2009. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Moldova Vladimir Filat during opening of the 36-th meeting of the CIS Electricity Energy Council in Chisinau.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of diversifying energy supplies in situation when Moldova produces only 25%-30% of the total volume of electricity consumed (excluding Transnitrian region). Vladimir Filat noted that Moldova consumes about 10-12 million kW / h of electricity per day. He stressed that in situation of total dependence on imports it is essential to diversify energy supply sources.

The premier said that in the field of the electric power it is planned to attract investments for construction and modernization of the existing power generating facilities, rehabilitate and upgrade the transmission lines connecting power networks of Ukraine, Moldova and Romania in order to increase electricity transportations through these high-voltage power lines to the Balkan countries and EU. Thus, it is planned to attract private investors and financial assistance of the European Commission.
