OREANDA-NEWS. November 16, 2009. At parliamentary session tax minister Fazil Mammadov claimed that as of 1 October of the year a little more than 21,000 out 201,726 taxpayers had tax debts for AZN 5.9 bn.

“At the same time the main debt totaled AZN 3.2 bn, debt on interest payment AZN 2.4 bn, debt on payment of financial sanctions AZN 300 million. As a result, AZN 2.7 bn of the debt (45.8%) fell on the share of interests and penalties. The main debt of AZN 1.5 bn (46.9%) falls on the share of state-run enterprises and first of all public utility companies and formed in previous periods,” Mammadov said.

Another part of the debt (AZN 1.7 bn), according to the minister, bears technical character and is caused, for example, in connection with a small delay with submission of tax declarations.
“The amendments to the Tax Code to come into force since 1 January 2010 accumulation of delay penalties will promote to repayment of main sums of debts,” Mammadov said.
