OREANDA-NEWS. November 30, 2009. As it was informed in the press service of the Moldovan Parliament, this was announced by the EU Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner following the meeting in Chisinau with the Acting President of Moldova, the Speaker of the Parliament Mihai Ghimpu.

She noted that a special EU mission, which arrives to Chisinau in January 2010, will assess the needs of the republic, as well as its functionality. The European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy stated that purpose of her visit to Chisinau is to help strengthening relations between Moldova and EU.

She noted that the EU is ready to support democratization of the Moldovan state, to implement reforms in various areas, as well as to promote fundamental rights and freedoms of the Moldavian citizens. As InfoMarket has informed before, within three years EU’s assistance to Moldova amounted to about 230 million euros.

It is the highest per capita allocation in the Eastern Neighbourhood. This amount should increase significantly in the next programming period (2011-2013). In view of the current financial and economic crisis, the Commission has increased and accelerated disbursement of its budget sector support to Moldova. The EU is also planning to support Moldova further with substantial Macro-financial Assistance.
