OREANDA-NEWS. February 05, 2010. At the present time, Russian Railways is considering increasing the frequency of its Sapsan high-speed shuttle train services and making some timetable changes, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Company experts are therefore carrying out the necessary technical work.

In connection with this, advance bookings for Sapsan high-speed trains will be taken for slightly less than the usual 45 days ahead of the travel date, but in the near future, Sapsan tickets will once again be available as normal, i.e. for travel up to 45 days ahead.

Media reports have appeared about alleged problems with the current operation of Sapsan high-speed trains in this connection.

The Company’s press service states that no significant issues relating to excess wear and tear on the wheel sets of Sapsan high-speed trains have been identified during their commercial operation.

Trains of this class have been operating commercially in Russia for six weeks and are being monitored in accordance with the maintenance contract. Experts at Siemens, in conjunction with Russian Railways, regularly carry out the necessary diagnostics of all components and units of the train, and analyse their performance.

Sapsan trains are running between Moscow and St. Petersburg on schedule and are operated in compliance with all safety standards.
