OREANDA-NEWS. March 22, 2010. At least 500.000 cm of gas will be saved annually in the process of fuel combustion for the needs of Yoshkar-Ola energy supply thanks to implementation by Mari El and Chuvashia branch of the CJSC IES Generation Urals division of the project related to transfer of the inhabitants of the 251th urban quarter of Oktyabrskiy community to the system of centralized heat supply by Yoshkar-Ola CHPP-2.

The branch completed the first stage of the project, which included the major part of works, in 2009. In particular, they reconstructed the central heating point located in the neighboring 241th quarter to increase its thermal output. Seven hundred and six meters of heat distribution networks (four-pipe design) from the central heating point to end-user were constructed while one hundred and five meters of feeding network (two-pipe design) to the heating point were reconstructed. These works allowed to close down a local boiler room of state unitary enterprise Specialized Housing and Utilities Administration, and use the reconstructed central heating point as a heat supply source for consumers.

According to Stanislav Popov, Technical Director and Chief Engineer of Yoshkar-Ola CHPP-2, the boiler house located in the quarter consumed a considerable volume of gas annually and was technically unable to provide high-quality heating supply for the citizens. Its heating networks and equipment were worn-out. As a result, unit costs and losses on heat generation and transmission were high. Expensive fuel was used here ineffectively, we burnt it in vain simply wasting the heat we generated.

Shutdown of the boiler house and transfer of the quarter inhabitants to centralized heat supply system made it possible avoid excessive gas burning: the thermal power plant is based on a combined heat and power cycle that enables it to generate required volumes of heat and consume much less fuel than in case of boilers. According to Stanislav Popov, this will help the town save considerably both in physical and money terms. It will be possible to realize the amount of expenses saved only when the current heating season is over.

It should be noted that together with fuel saving the implementation of such a project ensures a substantial increase in reliability and quality of heat supply to quarter residents: energy-saving technologies as well as up-to-date and high-performance work procedures are implemented to increase heat consumption efficiency and reduce losses of energy resources. Furthermore, shutdown of the boiler house contributed to improvement of ecological situation in the quarter thanks to reduction of atmospheric emissions.

All works in the quarter are to be completed by the beginning of 2010-2011 heating season: construction of four hundred seventy-six meters of heat distribution networks (four-pipe design), as well as works relating to centralization of engineering process at the central heating point are expected to be performed this year.
