OREANDA-NEWS. April 26, 2010. In I quarter of 2010, the volume of retail trade in Moldova amounted to 4 billion 988.1 million leis (USD 400 million), increasing by 6,2% compared to the same period of 2009. As it was informed in the National Bureau of Statistics, the growth of retail trade turnover in January-March was due to the increased retail sales of foodstuffs by 4,2% - up to 1 billion 773.1 million leis (USD 140,7 million) and sales of the consumer goods by 6,8% - up to 3 billion 215 million leis (USD 255,2 million).

The share of sales of the foodstuffs accounts for 35.5% of the total retail sales in I quarter 2010 and sales of consumer goods - 64,5% of the total sales in the period. In I quarter of 2010, the volume of retail trade of mixed ownership companies (with foreign capital participation) and companies of the foreign ownership has increased by 10,7%, private enterprises – by 5,2%. At the same time, sales in the mixed (public and private) trading companies decreased by 15% and in public companies- by 0,3%, respectively.

The largest share in the total cost of retail sales in I quarter 2010 has accounted for Chisinau- 60,9% and Balti - 7,3%. As it was informed before, in 2009 the volume of retail trade in Moldova amounted to 19.9 billion leis (USD1,6 billion), down 4,4% compared with 2008.
