OREANDA-NEWS. June 02, 2010. Year-to-date freight volume via Port Ilyichevsk (Illichivsk) Commercial Sea Port (SCPI, Odessa Region, Ukraine) fell by 4.3% from the same period last year, to 6,836,000 tons, SCPI press service said.

In May the company handled 1,052,000 tons of cargo, 29,2% down from May 2009. Over the recent month general cargo volume rose by 7.6%, bulked cargoes slumped by 56,5%, volume of liquid cargo shrank by 32.2% .

Volume of handled gas jumped 114.3%, autos volume rose twofold, pig iron – by 66.9%, ferry line cargo gained 61. 2%, meal volume added 61.1%, containers count rose by 30.1% in tons, and by 29.8% in TEUs. May container trade amounted to 22.480 TEUs.

State-run Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk is among the four largest Ukrainian ports. The company’s facilities allow transshipping over 30 million tons of cargo annually. The port’s mooring line with 29 berths is 6 km long. Illyichevsk also has three railroad exit ways and three point for road transport. In 2009 the port handled 16,286 million tons, a 13.8-percent drop as compared with 2008.
