OREANDA-NEWS. June 04, 2010. The Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament on Wednesday approved the Maltese MEP Edward Scicluna's report on Estonia's changeover to the single euro currency.

The report was approved with 14 votes to two and one abstention.

Committee member Ivari Padar told reporters in Brussels that discussions of Estonia's bid to adopt the euro passed in a warm atmosphere.

The parliament will take a vote on Estonia's euro report later this month.

The final decision on Estonia's entry into the euro zone will be made by the council of European Union finance ministers ECOFIN at the beginning of July.

Endorsement by the European Parliament is one stage on Estonia's road to the common currency, Padar explained.

Estonia is expected to join the euro area on Jan. 1, 2011.
