OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2010. Sun InBev announces the start of Bio Treatment System construction for its Perm brewery. The project becomes a part of Sun InBev’s continued commitment to improving its environmental performance around the globe. Careful treatment of the environment is one of the company’s priorities for sustainable development, reported the press-centre of Sun InBev.

Sun InBev plans to invest 10 million USD during next three years in the construction of new Bio Treatment System which will be equipped with the latest technology on the market. It will use a combination of anaerobic and aerobic biological processes to treat 100 percent of Perm brewery water outflow. The announcement of the project is devoted to World Environment Day celebration AB InBev’s breweries all over the world take part in.

The company also plans to open new BTSs in three facilities in Russia: Klin, Omsk and Angarsk, the constructions of which are on the final stage now. Sun InBev has already invested 40 million USD in these projects. Globally, AB InBev has already built or upgraded 14 Bio Treatment Systems in 2009 and plans to construct or upgrade an additional 20 facilities by 2012.

All these initiatives correspond to the set of challenging environmental goals the company aims to achieve in 2010 focused on such key issues as water and energy use, carbon emission and recycling. Since water is the principal ingredient of company’s product and a highly precious natural resource, its efficient use is essential. To reach 3,84 hectoliters of water consumption for each hectoliter of beer production is the most important goal for Sun InBev. Reaching this goal will make Sun InBev one of the most water-efficient brewers in Russia and will represent a 12 percent reduction per unit of production in the company’s water usage since 2008.

The environmental goals are the central part of Sun InBev’s Better World philosophy which is centered around promoting responsible drinking, reducing the company’s impact on the environment and giving back to the communities in which the company operates.
