OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2010. Members of the Russian Railways board of directors inspected progress in transport infrastructure construction to prepare Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Taking part were Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Russian Railways Board Chairman Alexander Zhukov, Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin, and other board members and officials. Members of the Russian Railways board of directors and top-management took part in ceremonial events marking the completion of tunneling work on rail tunnels No. 4 and No. 6. Railway tunnel No. 4 is on the 36th km of the line, and is 449 m long, reported the press-centre of RZD.

Dual-track rail tunnel No. 6 is 443 m long, and is the final railway structure before the Alpika-Service station. Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin told journalists in Sochi: “Five out of six transport structures for the Olympics are currently under construction. We are keeping strictly to our schedule, and are not modifying it.” Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Russian Railways Board Chairman Alexander Zhukov also stressed that construction work is keeping up with the schedule, and on certain structures is progressing ahead of time. He said the Russian government has decided to provide an additional 40 billion rubles this year, which were initially allocated for 2011, to speed up construction.

On the construction of the Adler – Sochi Airport railway line, Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin noted that launching the line will allow guests and competitors arriving at the airport to travel in comfort either to the city center or to Krasnaya Polyana. “The company plans to launch services between Adler and Sochi Airport ahead of schedule – in December 2011. This will allow us to ease transport problems within Sochi”, Vladimir Yakunin said. Delegation members visited the construction site of the Adler – Sochi Airport line, overpass No. 1 on the combined road and rail route linking Adler to Alpika-Service mountain resort, and the Esto-Sadok station and passenger terminal, currently under construction.
