OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2011. The international tourism fair FITUR 2011 will be held in Madrid, Spain on 19-23 January.

Uzbekistan, located on the Great Silk Road, is attracting tourists with its unique ancient monuments, beautiful nature and national traditions.

The reforms in the sector have led to increase of the number of modern hotels and recration centers. New tourist routes are being created and transport links renovated.

The cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Tourism Organization (WTO) has been developing consistently. Uzbekistan joined the organization in 1993. The country regularly hosts international tourism fairs, conferences and seminars in collaboration with the WTO.

The visit of the WTO General Secretary Taleb Rifai in October 2010 to Uzbekistan raised mutual relations to a qualitatively new level.

Uzbektourism national company told UzA that Uzbekistan is capable of receiving about 2 million foreign tourists each year.

FITUR 2011, where Uzbekistan will demonstrate its huge tourist potential, should help increase the flow of tourists to the country.

FITUR is one of the largest international fairs. Last year’s forum attracted 10,000 companies from more than 150 countries with about 600 stands.

More than 11,000 travel agencies and companies, as well as experts from 166 countries are expected to attend the fair this year.

Uzbekistan will be represented, apart from Uzbektourism, by Uzbekistan Airways, Uzbekistan Railways and other companies.
