OREANDA-NEWS. February 14, 2011. President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych stands for public discussion of land reform in our country, he said today while visiting the private-rental enterprise "Zorya" in Kherson region.

"The main objective of land reform is the land having a promising owner," he said.

Speaking to employees of the enterprise, Viktor Yanukovych stressed that land reform is one of the most important questions of state policy today.

The President said that having some of the world’s best soils, and natural and climatic conditions, we must bring the agro-industrial complex to a new level of development, and make it competitive and efficient.

He noted that attempts to conduct land reform have been made many times before. However, they were inconsistent and unsystematic, and therefore yielded no concrete, observable results, especially for the farmers. "Shady schemes have always worked and are working on. What did common people get? Nothing," Viktor Yanukovych said.

"It is necessary that land owners were effective, that there were land use regulations, and that the owners observed them" - he said.

Viktor Yanukovych has also informed that our country will establish a land bank this year, which will be giving loans to farmers.

The current situation in the world with food supplies is getting worse, he said. Given the global threat of food crisis and the need to ensure economic security of Ukraine, we must conduct a pragmatic agricultural policy.

"The future of Ukraine is land," Viktor Yanukovych said.
