OREANDA-NEWS. April 11, 2011. Giurgiulesti International Free Port transshipment volumes increase by 32.5% in the first quarter compared to same period in 2010, to a total of 82,172 MT. The transshipment of oil products increased by 55% and grain by 25%, according to the BEMOL company’s press statement. Furthermore 2,260MT of building materials were transshipped in the first quarter of 2011.

Thomas Moser, the chairman of ICS Danube Logistics SRL – the general investor and operator of Giurgiulesti International Free Port – said the company is pleased about the continuously increasing transshipment volumes at GIFP as it demonstrates that clients are satisfied with the services. This new terminal will enable the company to handle all types of cargo and therefore should once more significantly boost the transshipment volumes of GIFP.

Giurgiulesti International Free Port is operated by ICS Danube Logistics SRL, a company owned by the Dutch company EASEUR Holding BV (80%) and by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (20%). According to the Ministry of Economy’s data, the total volume of investments into the Giurgiulesti International Free Port as of January 1, 2011 totaled USD 46.6 million. USD 7.2 million were invested in 2010.
