OREANDA-NEWS. May 03, 2011. Recently, auto steel technology development and application national key laboratory (Baosteel) 1st Academic Committee's first meeting was held in Shanghai. He Wenbo, Baosteel Group general manager attended the meeting and presented letters of appointment to the members of the first  Academic Committee, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

He Wenbo expressed thanks to the Academic Committee experts for their hard work and support of the Key Laboratory. He hoped that through mutual efforts, this laboratory will be one of the best laboratory in China. 30 people, including academic committee members from famous domestic auto factories, universities and Baosteel, Baosteel leaders and research staff in related departments attended the meeting.

Approved by Ministry of Science and Technology last year, Auto Steel Technology Development and Application National Key Laboratory is the first National Key Laboratory in China in the field of auto steel. The Laboratory is designed to support and meet the needs of the rapid development of China's automobile industry, especially in research in the field of weight reducing, energy saving, longevity and security, to strengthen efforts in cooperation among production, learning and research and to encourage social cooperation. In this way, the car users are provided with a package of technical solutions. Auto steel technology development and application can keep up paces with foreign counterparts and China's steel industry's technological level and competitiveness can be raised. The first session of the Academic Committee has 12 experts, from Auto Lightweight Innovation Alliance, FAW Group, SAIC, Dongfeng Motor, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University and Baosteel Research Institute.

The meeting was chaired by the Dean of Academic Committee, Shanghai Jiaotong University Vice Chancellor Professor Lin Zhongqin. Key Laboratory director Lu Jiangxin made report on the  development and building of the laboratory. Academic leaders of five research platforms made special reports on  technology of material, forming, welding, painting and etching. Baosteel chief researcher made report on  Baosteel third-generation advanced high-strength steel R&D situation and ideas to Academic Committee  members and experts. Committee members and experts carried out discussion on the operating mechanism and topic arrangement of the Key Laboratory open topics.

Academic Committee fully endorsed the key laboratory research and construction work and made useful comments and suggestions on laboratory research direction and open topic setting. The Committee hoped that the lab would focus on major research direction, do prospective research based on business advantages, increase key open issue investment, stress patent and proprietary technology accumulation, strengthen cooperation and exchange and build world first-class lab platform.
