OREANDA-NEWS. May 04, 2011. As many as 1,931 enterprises were registered in the first quarter of 2011, up by 15 per cent against the same period of the year before, according to data put out by the State Registration Chamber. It is for the first time that the number of enterprises recorded in the state register increases.

As many as 3,499 firms were registered during the first three months of 2007, with the figure falling down to 1,678 in 2010.

The increase recorded in the first quarter of 2011 is due to the economic restoration which started in 2010.

According to the State Registration Chamber, 56 per cent of the enterprises recorded in the first quarter of 2011 operate in Chisinau and 46 per cent in other regions. Trade is the most attractive business for Moldovans. Nearly half of the enterprises are dealing with wholesale and retail trade.

Nonetheless, the number of enterprises that closed down stood at the level of 2010, with about 797 enterprises being closed down in the first quarter of 2011, of which 615 being from other populated areas but Chisinau. The main reason for their closure was the difficult financial situation.

By 1 February 2011, there were 157,475 legal entities and private enterprises recorded in Moldova, of which 74,329 were limited liability companies and 67,135 were private enterprises.
