OREANDA-NEWS. May 11, 2011. Russian Railways shipped 103.4 million tons in April 2011, 2.3% more than in the same month last year, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Freight turnover in April 2011 increased by 3.4% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 175.8 billion tariff ton-km.

Loading volumes in January-April 2011 amounted to 398 million tons, up 4.7% over the same period in 2010.

According to the latest information, the following volumes of freight were shipped by rail during January-April 2011:

coal – 99.5 million tons (+0.7% compared to January-April 2010),

coke – 4.3 million tons (+2.4%),

oil and oil products – 84 million tons (-0.1%),

iron and manganese ores – 35.3 million tons (+8.8%),

ferrous metals – 25.2 million tons (+6%),

scrap ferrous metals – 5.4 million tons (+4.7%),

chemical and mineral fertilisers – 16.2 million tons (+4%),

cement – 8.7 million tons (+13.9%),

timber – 14.4 million tons (-3.6%),

grain and ground products – 5.3 million tons (-13.3%),

construction materials – 43.4 million tons (+25.7%),

non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 8.1 million tons (+0.3%),

chemicals and soda – 9.9 million tons (+4.5%),

industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 9.7 million tons (-4.8%),

containerised cargo – 6.3 million tons (+14.6%).

Cargo turnover in the first four months of 2011 was 689.6 billion tariff ton-km (+7.6%).
