OREANDA-NEWS. June 9, 2011. Tata Power, today, announced the company’s preparedness for the monsoon season to ensure uninterrupted power supply to its consumers in Mumbai. Tata Power has a robust action plan to meet exigencies arising out of various situations during the monsoon season, such as water logging, power failures, electrical shocks, sparking, and fire, to minimise inconvenience to it consumers.

Tata Power’s monsoon preparedness action plan:

Pre-monsoon checks and preventive maintenance of equipment have been carried out at both, distribution sub stations and consumer sub stations.

Adequate number of de-watering pumps installed at all distribution and consumer sub stations to avoid flooding. Vehicles with necessary implements to handle emergencies are kept in readiness.

Dedicated teams have been strategically placed at various nodes of the city to cater to any emergency.

Adequate stock of essential spare parts, tools and equipment including transformers, switchgears, etc has been ensured to minimise the response time towards power interruptions.

Special arrangements at the company’s 24x7 call centre (toll free number: 1800 209 5161) to ensure timely action in emergency situations.

Speaking on Tata Power’s monsoon preparedness, Ashok Sethi, vice president, Mumbai licence area, Tata Power, said, “We have taken pre-emptive measures to minimise customer woes during the monsoons and ensure safety to consumers. Further, we request all our customers to support the company’s efforts in achieving total safety by following the safety guidelines shared by the company.”

Do’s:

Ensure that your building’s meter cabin is adequately protected from water logging.

Get the entire wiring in your premises thoroughly checked and tested by a licensed electrical contractor.

Put off the main switch in case there is water logging or leakage observed in the meter cabin. Put on the main switch only after ensuring that all faults have been rectified properly.

In case sparking is noticed in meter cabins or any other abnormality is noticed in the sub station and / or there is an electric shock through any of the electrical installations, please contact our 24x7 call centre.

Don’ts:

Do not touch any installations bare handed or without using hand gloves, safety shoes or an insulated platform.

In case of sparking and / or water leakages, do not touch street light poles, meters in cabin or any such installations.

Do not use electricity more than the sanctioned load. This is especially applicable in case of temporary connections.
