OREANDA-NEWS. July 05, 2011. Moldova increased energy resources import by 50.6% in the first quarter of 2011 in comparison with the same period last year, to USD 270.98 million. According to the country’s balance of payments, particularly, import of energy resources to Moldova from the CIS countries in January-March 2011 increased by 42.6 percent – from USD 135.13 million to USD 192.92 million, from other countries – by 74.6% - from USD 44.83 million to USD 78.26 million, the National Bank reports.

Particularly, import of natural gas to Moldova in the first quarter of 2011 reduced by 3.3 percent in physical terms in comparison with the same period last year – to 526.49 million cubic meters. In value terms, gas supplies grew 22.3% - from USD 113.49 million to USD 138.78 million. Import of coal to Moldova increased in money terms 3.2 times – from USD 1.97 million to USD 6.31 million, in physical terms – almost twice – from 22.55 thousand tones to 44.34 thousand tones.

Import of fuel, including petrol and diesel oil increased in value terms by 95.1% - from USD 64.5 million to USD 125.85 million. Its supplies to Moldova from the CIS countries increased 2.4 times – from USD 19.67 million to USD 47.63 million, from other countries – by 74.5 percent – from USD 44.83 million to USD 78.22 million.

The biggest volumes of diesel oil in January-March 2011 were supplied to Moldova by Romania (52.3% of the total volumes), Belarus (19.5%), Ukraine (18.8%), Greece (9.3%), Russia (0.1%). Romania was the main petrol supplier to Moldova accounting for 55.4% of the total import volume. It was followed by Greece (14.5%), Belarus (10.3%), Bulgaria (9.4%), Lithuania (5.8%), Hungary – 4.6%.

The main coal supplier to Moldova in the first quarter of 2011 was Ukraine, accounting for 81.5% of the total import volumes. Russia accounted for 17.9 percent. Belarus was the main black oil supplier with the share of 89.4%. Kazakhstan’s share made up 9.8%.
