OREANDA-NEWS. July 14, 2011. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated private power company, has been associated with various community development programmes in Belgaum. One such initiative is in the area of education, through the distribution of educational kits comprising notebooks, pen, pencils, erasers and educational toys to needy children.

Tata Power recently provided 234 notebooks, 60 ballpens, 92 pencils and 92 erasers to 51 students of Classes 1 to 5 in the schools of Mallhole village. Similarly, various educational toys and kits were distributed among 32 Anganwadi students at the Kannada Government Primary School in Mallhole on June 21, 2011, in the presence of members of the gram panchayat, school development committee members and school teachers by Tata Power Belgaum officials.

Further, schoolbags, raincoats and shoes were distributed to schoolchildren (Classes 5 to 10) who stood first, second and third in the annual examination at the Kannada Government Primary High School, Kanabargi, on June 23, 2011, to encourage education among village students. Two first-aid boxes with medicines were also provided on this occasion.

Speaking on the community development initiatives, Balaraja Bhat, head, Belgaum plant, Tata Power, said, “We strongly believe in improving the quality of life of the communities living in and around our area of operations. Children are the future, and furthering their development is akin to the development of the society. It is heartening to receive appreciation from the people of Mallhole and we are committed to serving them to the best of our ability."

Earlier, a total of more than 350 notebooks and pencils were distributed amongst schoolchildren studying in Classes 1 to 3 at the Kannada Government School of Mallhole in Vantamuri village and the Kanbargi Kannada Medium Primary School. Wooden benches made from in-house packing material (wood) were also distributed to the Mallhole school.
