OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2011. Already in troubled waters, the urban transport sector of the City is likely to face another challenge on the announced arrival of the CNG buses from China due to the reluctance of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Company for allocation of the specific quota of natural gas to those buses, TheNation has learnt.

With Lahore struggling to contain vehicles emission, and Punjab government statistics pointing to a need for at least 2,000 buses to satisfy current demand for the public transport, the Lahore Transport Company announced the arrival of the CNG buses and inauguration of the independent filling stations to provide relief to daily commuters during the gas holidays. At current, three days gas load management plan for CNG stations of the province is being conducted by the SNGPL.

The LTC, a few days back, had announced that the Punjab government planned to bring 2,000 CNG buses from China under a project to tackle an acute shortage of public transport in the provincial metropolis. Moreover, it had been also announced that the high pressure CNG stations would be set up to cater the gas demand of the buses.

This was learnt that the LTC had requested the SNGPL for the fixing of gas for the proposed filling stations initially for 1,200 buses and the correspondence was underway in this regard.
