OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2011. Obligatory marking of beef meat pointing out full information about the animal is introduced in Moldova. It is stipulated by the amendments to the sanitary-veterinary norms on beef marking system approved at the government’s meeting.

The agriculture and food industry minister Vasilii Bumacov said the label has to contain information about the animal’s age (up to 8 months, 8-12 months, 1-2 years), its gender and other useful information for consumers to be able to evaluate the meat’s quality.

The agriculture minister said the amendments are introduced to bring the Moldovan legislation in line with European norms and requirements, to ensure protection of consumers’ rights and food security.

Marking is planned to be applied onto the beef meat right after slaughter of cattle, the size of marking will be at least 50 square centimeters.
