OREANDA-NEWS. July 26, 2011. Hitachi Ltd was selected as the Strategic Investor for the Visaginas nuclear power plant (NPP) project in Lithuania. As part of its proposal, Hitachi offered to invest into the project as well as to provide an Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR), the only generation III nuclear reactor with a proven operational track record around the world and an enhanced level of safety, reported the press-centre of SORAINEN.

Once operational the Visaginas NPP will add about 1,300 MW of low-carbon power capacity and will significantly enhance the security of energy supply in Lithuania as well as Estonia, Latvia and Poland, which also plan to participate in this project. This is the largest investment project in the Baltic States since they regained independence in early 1990s.

SORAINEN Lithuania has been advising Hitachi throughout the bidding process for selection of the Strategic Investor and on further matters following the selection. Our team in this project is led by partner Laimonas Skibarka.
