OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2011. The Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vasilii Bumacov said the Strategy had been elaborated in line with recommendations of the European Union’s experts within the negotiations over the Agreement on creation of the deepened and comprehensive free trade zone between Moldova and the EU. The Strategy’s main objective is to raise the level of citizens’ health protection and consumers’ interests in terms of food security.

It is planned that thanks to observance of the coordinated, efficient and dynamics food policy and of all foodstuffs safety principles, all operators participating in production, processing, storage, transportation, distribution and sale of foodstuffs will guarantee that foodstuffs are safe for final users. It is emphasized that given the globalization of the food chain, new challenges and risks for health and interests of consumers have appeared.

In this connection, a new legislation in food safety will be elaborated in Moldova and will be constantly updated, covering all stages of food production – starting from the field, ending with the table of a consumer.

It is planned to establish the national agency for food safety and to toughen the food safety control procedure within implementation of the strategy. Implementation and development of the modern system of control and animal- vegetable production are planned to increase Moldova’s trade with the CIS and EU states.
