OREANDA-NEWS. October 20, 2011. Tata Power’s wholly-owned subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL) received the Strong Commitment to HR Excellence recognition in the 2nd CII National HR Excellence Awards. The certificate was received at the 2nd CII National HR Conclave 2011 held on October 18, 2011, at The Grand, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

The HR Excellence awards were constituted by CII to recognise the strength of the HR processes of an organisation. The CII-HR Excellence Model is based on the CII-Exim Bank Excellence Award encompassing all aspects of human resource management and acts as a practical tool for:

A self-assessment model for measuring the current status, and thus identify the gaps to stimulate solutions.

A framework to position various HR initiatives and identify gaps.

A basis to develop common understanding of various terms used in HR management.

Speaking on the occasion, Alok Kanagat, executive director, CGPL, said, “We are delighted to receive this award. We will continue our efforts towards achieving excellence in HR practices and establish new industry standards.”

The eligibility of the award was based on a three-step process beginning with the submission of an initial application document on CGPL’s people processes, which comprised an overview of CGPL, leadership processes, HR strategy and processes, people knowledge and competencies, employee wellbeing and engagement.

As part of the second step, an eminent panel of assessors from CII conducted a site visit to CGPL for a meeting with the leadership team and assessing various aspects of HR excellence. As a next step, the scores and feedback report by the assessor panel was evaluated by an eminent jury panel. Thirty-nine companies participated in the process.
