OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2011. Recently the result of 2011 China Metallurgical Science and Technology Award is unveiled. Baosteel has 5 achievements on the list, among which, the project of "R&D on process and complete set of equipment for high speed pickling and rolling of ultra-thin steel strip" is awarded the only special prize. The skill specialist Chu Bin from Stainless Steel Business Unit won the grass-root worker's prize that is established for the first time with "Blast furnace energy saving technology based on comprehensive judging method of charge level", reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

China Metallurgical Science and Technology Award was set up by China Iron and Steel Association and the Chinese Society for Metals in 1999 and approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC.

According to "Awarding regulations of China Metallurgical Science and Technology Award" and its implementation details, the specialists of the awarding committee of China Metallurgical Science and Technology Award finally selected 79 awarded projects, including 1 special prize, 10 first prizes, 28 second prizes and 40 third prizes. Baosteel has 5 projects awarded, among which, "R&D on process and complete set of equipment for high speed pickling and rolling of ultra-thin steel strip" is awarded the only special prize, "Independent development & integration of high grade UOE welded pipe process technology" is awarded the first prize, "Research, equipment development and its application and promotion of the key technology of on-line jet printing of metallurgical products" and "Blast furnace energy saving technology based on comprehensive judging method of charge level" are awarded the second prize, " Research and application of 5m heavy plate process model" is awarded the third prize.

Backed up by Meishan Steel's cold rolling project, "R&D on process and complete set of equipment for high speed pickling and rolling of ultra-thin steel strip" takes advantages of Baosteel's production and R&D achievements in 30 years to independently design and manufacture world leading ultra-thin steel sheet cold tandem rolling line, and form the serialized exclusive cold tandem rolling integration technology with proprietary intellectual property rights. The project forms 25 patents, including 21 invention patents, and 59 corporate technical know-how. The successful construction of the project demonstrates that China has possessed the capability to independently design, manufacture and construct the complete set of equipment for world leading cold rolling equipment. The project also drives the progress of Chinese metallurgical equipment manufacturing sector, and generates tremendous economic and social benefits.

"Independent development & integration of high grade UOE welded pipe process technology" develops the total process quality control technology applicable for the production of high grade UOE welded pipe, formation emulation platform for UOE welded pipe manufacture process, formation control technology for UOE welded pipe manufacture, the double-sided multiple-wire SAW welding wire for high grade UOE welded pipe, the matching welding process, the ultrasonic, X-ray and magnetic particle NDT technology for UOE welded pipe. The project forms 20 patents and 98 corporate technical know-how. This project elevates China's UOE welded pipe manufacture technology to the first class in the world, supports and promotes the development of Chinese energy and environmental protection industry, and generates remarkable social benefit.

The Metallurgical Science and Technology Award this year set up grass-root worker's prize for the first time and 4 peoples received the prize. Chu Bin won this prize with "Blast furnace energy saving technology based on comprehensive judging method of charge level". This project has made the application for 14 national patents, including 5 invention patents, and 10 corporate technical knowhow, abstracts 2 advanced practices. In nearly 3 years, direct economic benefit of over RMB 200 million were enjoyed accumulatively and over 500,000t of CO2 emission were reduced.
