OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2011. MPX received the ECO 2011 award for the Taua Solar Power Plant, the first solar power plant  in Latin America to be  connected to the power grid. The awards ceremony was held at the headquarters of the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham)  that co-sponsors the award in conjunction with  Valor Economico.

A unique initiative in the country, the solar power plant was built and  is in operation in  Taua (CE). “ MPX is proud to be listed  among companies with the best sustainability practices. The Taua plant evidences our confidence in the development of solar power generation in Brazil aiming at energy matrix diversification”, said Mario Sergio Gomes Ferreira, venture Finance Director representing MPX at the at the ECO 2011 awards ceremony.

MPX was nominated along with 85 companies. The Taua Solar Plant was awarded  in the Product and Service Sustainability Category, in which initiatives by  Braskem, Kimberly-Clark and Viacao Metropolitana were also recognized. “The competition  between the nominees was really hot. The high quality of this year’s winning cases was incredible,  causing quite an impression in our jury”, Amcham CEO Gabriel Rico said. The 300 hundred guests who attended the ceremony were offered further details on MPX and the Taua Solar Power Plant in the exhibition space that was offered to the award winners.

This is the second consecutive recognition of MPX by the ECO Award, which this year has reached its 29th edition. In 2010, MPX was recognized for the  relocation program designed for  95 families in the metropolitan region of  Sao Luiz,  fully in line with the  highest quality and social responsibility standards.
