OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2011. The First International Cotton Fair organized by the Turkmenpagta State Concern, the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan started its work at the Sergi köşgi Exhibition Centre in Ashgabat.

The cabinet ministers, the heads of Mejlis, ministries and departments, the public organisations of the Galkynys National Movement and foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan, journalists, rectors of higher educational institutions, numerous participants and guests from all regions of Turkmenistan and foreign countries attended the forum opening ceremony.

In his welcoming address to exhibition participants President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished them the successful and fruitful work and noted that ‘this fair will showcase the achievements of the agricultural sector and the cotton industry of Turkmenistan, facilitate applying best international practices and scientific advances in these sectors and enhance the efficiency of ongoing measures aimed at reaping rich ‘white gold’ harvests and modernizing the cotton industry.”


Participants from Turkmenistan and the companies and organisations from over twenty countries of the world are taking part in the exhibition of the products of the cotton and other industries of the agro-industrial sector. Among foreign participants are top managers and specialists of the Cotton Outlook International Agency and the International Cotton Association (UK), the China Cotton Association, the Russian Cotton Society, the Сentral Cotton Company Ltd, Wakefield Inspection Services Ltd and Synder Ltd (UK), ICT Cotton Limited (Saudi Arabia), Paul Reinhart AG, Jecot S.A., Rezana Trading S.A. and ECOM Agroindustrial Corp. (Switzerland), SGS Uzbekistan, CIFAL Group (France), Cottonex Anstalt (Liechtenstein) , Dilosystems and Otto-Stadtlander GmbH (Germany), Mezhtrans Moldova, Maschio Gaspardo (Italy) and others.

Foreign guests demonstrate a keen interest in the expositions showcasing the achievements and potential of the cotton and other industries of the agro-industrial sector of Turkmenistan. The long list of the exhibition sections includes all components of ‘white gold’ production ranging from land improvement and irrigation, fertilizer and pest and disease control technologies to cotton processing.

Turkmen cotton is a major raw material for the national textile industry and a valuable export product supplied to China, Russia, England, Korea, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and other countries.

The agro-industrial ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, research institutions and leading agricultural producers present their expositions at Sergi köşgi.

The International Conference entitled “Cotton Industry of Turkmenistan and World Market” started its work in the conference hall of the Exhibition Centre yesterday. The conference agenda focuses on such issues as the modernization of the cotton industry, world cotton market trends, new prospects of international cooperation in the cotton industry, etc. The information on the ongoing agricultural reform in Turkmenistan, the prospects for modernization of the Turkmen agro-industrial sector, the ongoing rural development programmes and new effective economic mechanisms for increasing agricultural production and strengthening the material and technical basis of the agricultural sector are of particular interest to conference participants.

Foreign guests participating in the First International Cotton Fair will visit the Main National Museum and the National Turkmen Carpet Museum in Ashgabat.
