OREANDA-NEWS. December 15, 2011. Anhui province will spend 160 billion yuan (USD 25 billion) on the transportation industry by 2015, according to a development plan posted on the provincial government's website Tuesday.

The Anhui Province's Transportation Development Plan for the 12th Five-Year Plan(2011-2015) Period said new expressways such as the Yuexi-Tongcheng-Wuwei Expressway will be built, bringing the total length of the province's freeways to 6,000-6,500 kilometers.

Cities with a population of more than 1 million will have an urban public transportation system which will take public bus transportation as the mainstay and allow the moderate development of rail transport and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). There will be a bus station every 500 meters in the streets of those cities and passengers will be able to change buses within five minutes. Besides, every 10,000 residents will share 13 standard public buses in those cities, according to the five-year plan.

The development of the province's passenger transportation hubs- Hefei, Wuhu, Bengbu and Fuyang- are to be sped up and a taxi dispatch center will be set up in the province's 16 prefectural-level cities before 2015, the plan said.

Meanwhile, four airports are expected to be added in cities of Chizhou, Bengbu, Wuhu and Bozhou. Around the airports, economic zones will be established for logistics, conferences and exhibitions, tourism and hi-tech export processing industries.
