OREANDA-NEWS. January 26, 2012. The 10th Trilateral Ukraine – EU – Moldova meeting on border and customs related issues was held in Kyiv.

The Delegation of Ukraine was headed by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Pavlo Klimkin, the Delegation of Moldova – by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Mr. Andriy Popov. The Delegation of the EU was composed, in particular, of Mr. John Kjaer, chief of the unit of the European External Action Service and Mr. Udo Burkholder, Head of the European Commission Border Assistance Mission to Ukraine and to the Republic of Moldova (EUBAM).

The participants of the meeting noted further strengthening security on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, substantial progress in its demarcation, development of the systems of integrated border management in Ukraine and Moldova, deepening of cooperation between the border and customs services of these states, as well as with EUBAM.

As a result of the meeting, the participants emphasized importance of further cooperation in Ukraine – EU – Moldova format on border and customs issues for both bilateral Ukrainian-Moldovan relations and European integration aspirations of these countries, particularly in the context of implementation of relevant action plans on visa liberalization with the EU.

The EU side confirmed its readiness to further provide through EUBAM necessary assistance to Ukraine and Moldova in fulfilment of the mentioned ambitious tasks.
