OREANDA-NEWS. March 13, 2012. Baltic Plant – Shipbuilding Ltd. plans to lay keel in the end of May of a 25 MW icebreaker of a series of diesel-electric icebreakers ordered for Rosmorport. The newbuild delivery is scheduled for the end of 2015, RBC reports. Besides, the firm expects a design of an 18 MW icebreaker to be completed within 3 years.

Earlier, the decision to place an order for a series of 4 diesel-electric icebreakers with Baltic Plant-Shipbuilding Ltd. had been approved at a meeting led by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. The contract worth RUB 20.4bn includes the construction of a new 25MW sea-going diesel-electric icebreaker of project 22600 and 3 17.4MW sea-going diesel-electric icebreakers of project 21 900 M.

St. Petersburg-based Baltic Shipyard is one of the largest shipbuilding enterprises in Russia. The shipyard specializes in the construction of diesel and nuclear-powered icebreakers, ice-class vessels, heavy lift vessels and warships.

Baltic Plant-Shipbuilding Ltd. is a legal entity formed in December 2011 to take over newbuilds orderbook and workforce from Baltic Shipyard, which was at the time facing insolvency.
