OREANDA-NEWS. March 22, 2012. Innovative solutions based on multi-system GLONASS/GPS navigation, and providing maximum comfort, high-quality transport service, and safety for those living in or visiting the capital, were put on show by the Joint Stock Company “Navigation-Information Systems” (NIS GLONASS) and the Company group “M2M telematics”, as part of the world’s biggest information technology exhibition - the CeBIT-2012 trade fair in Hanover, Germany.

Visitors to the CeBIT-2012 exhibition found out how aspects of Moscow’s Intelligent Transport System (ITS) function. The system is being developed and implemented by the federal chain operator “NIS GLONASS” and the Company group “М2М telematics”.

As part of the ITS-Moscow program, an automated system is to be created for dispatch management and the provision of safe transit, on Moscow’s road-based public transport (ASDM-RPT). Currently, public transport vehicles belonging to SUE “Mosgortrans” are equipped with GLONASS/GPS satellite navigation equipment. By the end of 2012, approximately 8,000 public transport vehicles in Moscow will have been fitted with satellite navigation equipment, which will mean that journeys will be made safer, road users will be better informed, and the city’s transport system will have a greater through-flow capacity. At present, 4,400 vehicles have been equipped with on-board satellite navigation terminals.

Information services (an online portal, a network of information panels, and a mobile phone app) are being created for the transport network, allowing passengers to get data in real time about buses’ progress through the traffic and be able to forecast, with a high degree of accuracy, what time they will reach a particular stop.

Experience from around the world shows that by implementing aspects of an Intelligent Transport System (ITS), delays in public transport can be cut by 10%; through-flow capacity can be raised by 5 to 15%; the average speed of traffic can be increased by 17%; and journey time can be shortened by 15-20%.

Visitors were also shown a System for managing the means and resources of interior ministry bodies, a System for providing information to users of road-based public transport in cities, a System for ensuring the safety of passengers on road-based public transport in cities, and also some navigational capabilities for owners of private vehicles.

To date, “NIS GLONASS”, in conjunction with “M2M telematics” and its regional partners, has fitted over 150,000 road passenger vehicles with GLONASS/GPS equipment. Within the territory of the Russian Federation, there are over 100 management systems in place for passenger transport, and approximately 5,000 dispatch centers fulfilling various purposes for the executive bodies of state power at the regional and municipal levels, and also within commercial companies.
