OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2012. The American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC) in partnership with the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the USA organized a roundtable in Washington dedicated to issues of expanding economic relations between Uzbekistan and the United States.

Jahon news agency reported that representatives of public-political and business circles of the United States attended the event.

Participants were informed that Uzbekistan pays great attention to developing bilateral relations with the United States. It was noted that the sides boosted cooperation in various areas, including in trade-economic sphere. The US firms actively implement investment projects in Uzbekistan and create mutual beneficial high-technologic sectors in industry.

Congressman Dan Burton highly rated the development of the Uzbek-US relations and added that bilateral ties reached to new high level in all directions. He expressed gratitude to the Uzbek President Islam Karimov on support of the US efforts on establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Speaking about development of bilateral trade-economic cooperation, he said that the United States is interesting expanding presence in perspective markets in condition of strengthening of financial-economic crisis in Europe.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake said that two states actively worked to expand dialogue in political, trade and investment spheres, as well as fight modern threats and challenges – terrorism, extremism and drug traffic.

Robert Blake said that the development of trade-economic cooperation deserve separate attention. He said that Tashkent and Washington hosted various large events with business circles in 2011. In the result, trade turnover between two states increased, he added.

The US official positively rated adopted measures on increasing foreign investments to modern and high-technological projects. As an example, he noted the initiative of the government to develop alternative energy, which also attracted interest of the US companies.

Robert Blake stated that Uzbekistan is important market for the United States and called American firms actively develop trade and investment cooperation with the country.

The AUCC chairperson Carolyn B. Lamm said that last several years were fruitful for the AUCC members in context of expansion of bilateral ties. She expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for support of the US firms in Uzbekistan. She noted that the AUCC will continue active work on attracting the US companies to implementation of mutual beneficial projects in Uzbekistan.

At the roundtable, members of the AUCC shares members of Congress, the US State Department, Trade Representative Office on current state of cooperation with Uzbekistan and successful experience of doing business in Uzbekistan.

The AUCC members noted that the activities of the US firms in Uzbekistan allows to provide jobs to thousands of the US citizens in such states as Nebraska, Washington, Southern Caroline and others.

It was said that Uzbekistan is the sixth largest market for General Motors and serious buyer for Boeing, Case New Holland and Lockheed Martin.

During the event, the participants exchanged opinion on expansion of the AUCC members in Uzbekistan and implementation of joint investment projects in the country.
