OREANDA-NEWS. June 1, 2012. JSC RusHydro (ticker symbol: MICEX-RTS, LSE: HYDR; OTCQX: RSHYY) announces that Boguchanskaya hydropower plant - a joint project with UC RUSAL and a fourth hydroelectric facility of the Angara cascade - after an active phase of filling the dam reservoir, is now increasing water discharges to the tailrace to ease navigation in lower Angara and Enisey. This will enable the passage of ships to distant regions of the Krasnoyarsk region, which has a paramount social importance.

During the navigation period the pace of filling the dam reservoir will be dependent on natural water inflows, and hydrological conditions in large, as well as volumes of water spills. After the end of navigation, the plant plans to decrease the discharges to minimal levels to further accumulate water in the dam reservoir.

At the first stage, the water level of the reservoir will reach an interim level of 185 meters above sea level, accumulating a total of 18.4 km3 of water. This will make possible the launch of the first 3 hydro-units. Further, the full reservoir level will reach 208 meters above sea level, and the reservoir volume will amount to 58.2 km3.

RusHydro and UC RUSAL jointly resumed the construction of 3000 MW Boguchanskaya hydropower plant in 2006, as part of a Boguchansky electrometallurgical complex (BEMO), comprising a hydropower plant with average annual output of 17.6 TWh and aluminum smelter with total output of ca. 600 thousand tonnes p.a.
