OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2012. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting devoted to the taxation issues in the oil and gas sector. The meeting took place at the Gazprom Mezhregiongaz premises.

Taking part in the meeting were Members of the Russian Government, representatives of specialized ministries, Gazprom Management Committee Chairman Alexey Miller and other top executives of the leading oil and gas companies.

The meeting focused on the need to elaborate a taxation policy that would attract investments to the oil and gas industries as well as secure stable operating conditions.

In particular, the meeting addressed the adoption of a balanced gas severance tax rate with due account for the domestic gas price growth and the cost-effectiveness of projects implemented by Gazprom and independent producers as well as the introduction of a gas severance tax formula.

Dmitry Medvedev looked into the work carried out by the operations control and dispatch service of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz. The Russian Prime Minister was shown an Integrated Information Technology Space System containing data from all of Russia's regions on gas consumption, over-consumption and under-consumption by consumers. Saint Petersburg was selected as an example to demonstrate real-time gas consumption as well as the forecasting techniques based on the available data.
