OREANDA-NEWS. June 29, 2012. Cathay Pacific has turned The Gallery space in the Business Class Lounge section of The Wing into an exhibition area, launching a series of displays featuring the work of well-known artists and photographers, reported the press-centre of Cathay Pacific.

From 27 June to 30 September a collection of seven pictures by award-winning photographer Fan Ho will be on display for passengers to enjoy. The collection, entitled “Shadows and Silhouettes”, was specially selected by Cathay Pacific and contains iconic images produced by the celebrated Hong Kong photographer.

Fan Ho’s elegant images are a perfect fit for the sophisticated lounge area. As well as viewing his photographs, passengers will also be able to learn more about the background of the acclaimed artist who also found fame as a Shaw Brothers actor and film director in Hong Kong.

General Manager Product Alex McGowan said: “I very much hope visitors to The Wing will enjoy browsing the ‘Shadows and Silhouettes’ collection, which captures the bygone days of Hong Kong. The images depicted in Fan Ho’s renowned photos are as relevant today as when they were taken more than 50 years ago.”

This is the first time Cathay Pacific has collaborated with an art gallery – Hong Kong’s Blue Lotus Art Consultancy – to showcase the airline’s commitment to supporting and promoting arts and culture. The previous exhibition at The Gallery, featuring travel photographs taken by Cathay Pacific staff, was well received. Future exhibitions for the space will provide passengers the chance to view unique and inspiring works before they fly.

About Fan Ho Recognised as one of the great masters in black and white photography, Ho’s work is strongly geometric and, with its contrasting light and shadow, highly dramatic. Though the images of Hong Kong were taken in the 1950s and 60s, his contemporary approach instils a sense of timelessness that allows each photograph to remain relevant today.

Fan Ho enjoyed three distinctive careers – a celebrated photographer, Shaw Brothers actor and, later in life, an acclaimed film director. Before joining Shaw Brothers in 1961, Ho had already established himself as one of Asia’s most influential photographers, winning more than 280 awards from international exhibitions and competitions since 1956.
