OREANDA-NEWS. July 12, 2012. This was stated by the head of EU delegation in Moldova as he and Defence Minister Vitalie Marinuta visited the airport and attended state enterprise Marculesti Airport International, founded by the Ministry of Defence of Moldova.

As studying facilities of the airport and the development program of the state enterprise, Dirk Schuebel noted there are real chances for the airport of Marculesti to be developed into a provider of low-cost services if to find investors. The EU delegation head said he had been informed about development projects of the airport of Marculesti and the local economic zone and would tell his colleagues from EU about its investment opportunities.

In 2004 the former military base of the Black Sea fleet in Marculesti was given a status of a civil airport. The airport of Marculesti was expected to turn Moldova into a regional transit and logistic centre for goods flowing from the north southward and from the west eastward and vice-versa.
