OREANDA-NEWS. September 13, 2012. Maithon Power (MPL), a 74:26 joint venture company of Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation, has joined hands with Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) and initiated an elaborate programme for training and employing the youth in the area of its operations. The programme will provide employment opportunities for the local youth in various business process outsourcing (BPO) and knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) subsidiaries of TCS, Kolkata. The training of the first batch started in August 23, 2012.

The 15-day training programme will educate the local youth on basic skills required for working in a BPO or a KPO and will cover around 200 students over a period of four months. This is in line with the companyЎЇs vision to create employment in the local community from the villages of Nirsa block, Maithon and Dhanbad.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhaskar Sarkar, CEO, MPL, said, "We are extremely happy to be able to create an avenue of skill development and employability for the local educated youth. We will be delighted if these participants get placements with TCS or any other reputed company.

Sanjay Bhattacharya, project head, MPL, said, "This will be a good launchpad for the youth from the local areas to start off a bright career in the IT industry and also in the Tata group."

Inaugurating the first session, which covered around 50 local participants, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, station head, MPL, said, "We are delighted with the success of this initiative. We take pride in the development of community in and around our projects and also in generating employment opportunities in the Tata group companies. We look forward to working on such initiatives aimed at providing sustainable livelihood to the local communities."

Initially, 95 graduate candidates have been identified from the local villages around MPL. These candidates will be given employability training in two batches by TCS officials on soft skills, business communication, business etiquette and computer knowledge. After completion of training, TCS HR representatives from Kolkata will conduct written examinations and subsequent interviews. Competent candidates will be selected for jobs in TCS Kolkata with an attractive salary package.
