OREANDA-NEWS. November 16, 2012. The European Union has not approved its budget for 2012, but it is safe to say that EU will continue backing the Eastern Partnership and may increase amounts of investment, the head of the European Commission in Moldova said at the press conference.

Dirk Schuebel stressed that in 2012 EU for the first time allotted to Moldova over 100 mln. euros, however, implementation of the reforms is a mandatory condition for Moldova’s being backed in future, in line with the principle “more for more”. According to Dirk Schuebel, fiscal and customs reforms, as well as the anti-corruption campaign require more attention. The head of the European Commission pointed out the progress Moldova had achieved and said that the Eastern Partnership is a unique opportunity for Moldova to reform the state.

Dirk Schuebel stressed that the reforms implemented are necessary for Moldova in any case, and not only to join the EU. “However, I am confident that the outlook for be admitted to the European Union is a good impetus for Moldova and its entire people.

“Today I think Moldova can be a member of the EU, whereas three years ago I had no such certainty”, Dirk Schuebel said.
