OREANDA-NEWS. November 20, 2012. Lebedinsky GOK (“LGOK”) (part of METALLOINVEST) has successfully passed an inspection audit of its environmental management system (EMS) in line with the GOST R ISO 14001-2007 and MS ISO 14001:2004 standards. The audit confirmed that the company’s approach to EMS complies with international environmental standards.

Specialists at the Inter-Regional Centre for Environmental Audit and Consulting in Moscow rated the effectiveness of the environmental management system at LGOK’s concentrating and pelletising plants as well as at HBI-1 Plant. According to the results of the audit, the LGOK’s EMS was confirmed as being functional and complying fully with the GOST R ISO 14001-2007 and ISO 14001:2004 standards.

METALLOINVEST recognises the importance of controlling the environmental impact of its production. The Company is continually working to achieve this goal, and has placed this topic at the core of all its development programmes. At LGOK and all other plants, comprehensive measures for environmental protection are being implemented to minimise the anthropogenic effect of production on the environment. In particular, having undertaken measures to limit air pollution, the actual level of LGOK emissions according to 2011 results was 25.7% below the permitted levels.

LGOK first underwent an EMS audit in 2005, being one of the first plants in Russia to do so. Re-certification of the environmental management system is conducted every three years. In addition, inspections take place annually.
