OREANDA-NEWS. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced that Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc., a North American subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric, started operation of its new transformer factory in Memphis, Tennessee. The factory, the new headquarters for the Mitsubishi Electric Group's heavy electrical equipment production in North America, increases the Group's capacity to produce large power transformers.

The USD 200-million, 350,000-sq-ft facility produces large power transformers mainly for power plants and substations. The investment reflects the Group's increasing commitment to providing electric utilities with high-quality products. Extra-high-voltage shell-type power transformers manufactured at the facility will strengthen the stability and reliability of North American electric grids, which account for more than 30% of the global demand for electric-utility equipment.

The new U.S. plant is a vital part of Mitsubishi Electric's global strategy to expand production capacity to meet the demand for transmission and distribution equipment, which is expanding by 400GVA annually.
