OREANDA-NEWS. April 30, 2013. Wizz Air, the largest low-fare, low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe is celebrating the 2 year anniversary of its base at Vilnius. Wizz Air’s Lithuanian base opened on 16th of April 2011 and has since grown significantly, which underlines both, the popularity of Wizz Air’s low fares and commitment to Lithuanian aviation.

Currently there are 2 Vilnius based aircraft with 22 local pilots and 40 local cabin crew members that operate on 14 routes flying to 8 countries including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Ukraine. In addition to these direct jobs created locally, Wizz Air’s passenger traffic also supports hundreds of jobs in the tourism and hospitality industry in and around Vilnius.

Daniel de Carvalho, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “It is with great joy that we join our Vilnius crew in their celebration of the 2year anniversary and say Happy Birthday to Low Fares at Vilnius! We welcome our crew’s enthusiasm shown by producing a celebration video that captivates the generous and friendly spirit demonstrated by Lithuanians (see link below). During our 2 years of operations in the Lithuanian capital as a local base, Wizz Air has carried over 800,000 passengers and the staffing of the base with Lithuanian professionals was also good news for the local job market. Wizz Air is continuously opening new Lithuanian low fare routes. Recently we announced new services to Alesund and Trondheim starting in early June as well as the route connecting Vilnius with Kiev that will start operating from early July*, and we look forward to further grow in Lithuania.”
