OREANDA-NEWS. May 16, 2013. In line with its commitment to environmental protection, Qatar Petroleum’s Dukhan Operations recently organized a beach cleanup campaign that involved the participation of students from the Dukhan English School and Dukhan Independent School.

The environmental campaign was held last Thursday at Dukhan beach, with over 120 students from Dukhan English School and boy scouts from Dukhan Independent School taking part in the activity.

The beach cleanup campaign started at 8:00 in the morning at a spot that was previously chosen by the campaign organizers. Rubbish bags and protective gloves were first distributed to the students, and the participants were then divided in groups, each of which was assigned to clean up a particular area of the beach.

Within an hour’s time, the students succeeded in clearing the beach of plastic wastes, glass bottles and other types of waste materials. At the end of the activity, the students and the organizers posed for group photos along with what they had collected from the beach.

The event was well organized by QP’s Dukhan Operations, which also provided medical personnel to ensure the well-being of the participants as well as labour staff who assisted the students during the beach cleanup activity.

Among the main objectives of the activity were to further raise the environmental awareness of the students and to highlight the important contribution that they could make in protecting the environment. The beach cleanup campaign was also one of the various events organized by Dukhan Operations to enrich the social life of the Dukhan community.
