OREANDA-NEWS. The new installations at our distribution centre in Teluk Rubiah in Perak, Malaysia, are now complete. The new unit will meet the demand coming from steel companies in the Asia-Pacific region and will also increase our logistics capacity. The first load of iron ore to be sent from Brazil to the new terminal is expected by the end of the year.

The first of 127 sets of conveyor belts, parts used for the transportation of iron ore, was successfully installed on both the centre’s import and export lines. In addition to this, the terminal has received 27 thousand metric tons of parts for the assembly of a forklift and a reclaimer, two of the main pieces of equipment that will be used in the ore stockyard.

Meanwhile, the construction of the rails for the first forklift has also been completed. When the equipment is in operation, these tracks will allow the forklift to move around the area and pile up the iron ore in one of two different stockyards, one for ore coming from the north of Brazil and the other for ore coming from the country’s southern region.

The import line, which will transport iron ore from Brazil to Malaysia, is expected to be finished in December so that it can receive cargo from the first Valemax transportation. The export line is due to be ready in 2014 and will be used for the loading of the Capesize and Panamax ships that will distribute the ore across the Asiatic region.
