OREANDA-NEWS. Vale has been granted an environmental installation licence and authorized to remove vegetation for the branch railway line that will link the Carajas Serra Sul to the Carajas Railway (EFC), in the state of Para. The licensing was issued by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA).

These licences give the go-ahead to build a 101-km branch line that will connect the S11D project stockyard with the EFC, with 85 km of it comprising the main line, while the remaining 16 km will be a balloon loop. The branch railway line is an integral part of the CLN S11D project, which will make it possible to expand Carajas’s logistics capacity to 230 million metric tons of iron ore per year.

Biggest project in Vale’s history

S11D is the biggest project in Vale’s history as well as the biggest in the iron ore industry. It is our main driver for growth in production capacity and maintaining our company’s position of global leadership where volume, cost and quality are concerned.
