OREANDA-NEWS. Mundra: Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has been carrying out various activities with a thrust to improve educational facilities for the children in and around its areas of operation. In another such effort, Tata Power, through its 100 percent subsidiary, Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL), is extending Project Sujaan to 27 schools of Mandvi block of Kutch district in an endeavour to empower the future generation through value-added computer- aided literacy.

Project Sujaan was initiated by CGPL through an agreement with Hole-in-the-Wall Education (Hiwell), a joint venture of NIIT and the International Finance Corporation (part of the World Bank Group), in 2011, and was highly appreciated by the community and teaching fraternity. After achieving tremendous success, CGPL decided to take this innovative system to a higher level and signed an MoU with Learning Delight (a partnership firm incorporated under The Indian Partnership Act 1932) to expand this project to 27 schools of Mandvi block.

The programme was inaugurated by Vasuben Trivedi, State Minister for Education, Women, and Child Welfare, Government of Gujarat, at Khalfan Primary School along with other dignitaries.

Commenting on the extension of Project Sujaan, KK Sharma, ED & CEO, CGPL, stated, “Project Sujaan is a unique initiative and we are happy that it has enhanced the education experience of many students in the Kutch region. It has assisted children to learn, observe, replicate, and understand interactive methods of teaching as well as improved the student-teacher relationship. Tata Power endeavours to enhance the current levels of computer literacy amongst children nationally.”

Before launching the project, it was ensured that all schools where the Education Department, Government of Gujarat, has already provided a full set-up for a computer lab would be covered. The extension service is basically adding value to the existing computer facility available in the schools through Learning Delight software.

The extended Project Sujaan will benefit the students in a number of ways. The new Learning Delight software installed is more student and teacher friendly; it focuses exclusively on the syllabus prescribed by the Gujarat State Education Board and also enables various other features for the benefit of the teachers and students. The project also provides strong teacher motivation and supportive relations with teachers through ongoing interactions and workshops.

The objective of the extension is to add value to the existing Project Sujaan with cost-effective models and provide innovative solutions that addresses gaps in computer-aided learning through a pioneering model of Learning Delight. It will enable rural students to be IT literate and make them at par with urban students.
