OREANDA-NEWS. October 03, 2013. Ukraine will receive a loan from China in the amount of USD 3 billion for the recovery of irrigation in the South. Some funds will come in the form of working capital to finance restoration works of irrigation and other part will be directed on the purchase of necessary equipment.

This project provides the recovery of water supply to the southern region from Kahovka water canal. This was started by Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.

"In the middle of next year Ukraine will start the implementation of the project regarding recovery of irrigation in the southern Ukraine. So, it is planned to restore the supply of water from the Kahovka water canal. At the first stage the irrigation to be restored on 800 hectares. And irrigated area will be expanded gradually. After all as of today the irrigation of 2.5 million hectares of land must be restored in Ukraine," the Minister said.

According to Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, the State Agency for Water Management has already received the corresponding order of the Cabinet of Ministers to develop the necessary feasibility study.

The Minister stressed that the issue of financial support for this investment project was discussed during the visit of Ukrainian delegation to China in September.
