OREANDA-NEWS. A wheel mill at Vyksa Steel Works (JSC VSW, Vyksa, a part of United Metallurgical Company, CJSC OMK) celebrates its 40th anniversary since being put into operation.

To celebrate the anniversary, VSW is hosting special events with planned visits from the Minister of Industry and Innovations of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Vladimir Nefyodov, representatives of OJSC RZD, the Railway Research Institute, the Non-Profit Partnership Union of Industries of Railway Equipment, the I.P. Bardin Central Research Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy, local authority leaders in Vyksa, OMK President Vladimir Markin, and VSW Executive Director Sergey Fillipov. The delegation will visit the VSW wheel facilities and participate in ceremonies honoring the mill's veterans and its current top workers.

VSW enjoys the world's largest production line of rolled railcar wheels, wheel centers for freight and passenger cars, locomotives, and electric and underground trains. The plant is a longtime reliable supplier of Russian Railways. In 2003, RZD and OMK signed a seven-year contract for delivery of railcar wheels; the contract was extended for an additional 5 years more in 2010. The total delivery volume for the duration of the contract will exceed 7 million wheels.

The United Metallurgical Company is a Russian and European leader in the production of rolled railcar wheels. The company covers over 60% of Russia's market of wheel products.

The congratulatory message sent to the wheel mill's employees from the OMK managers states, "Since Vyksa Steel Works joined OMK in 1999, the plant's annual output of railcar products has increased by 0.5 million wheels. Our results are an achievement that speaks to the quality of the staff of VSW steelmaking and wheel mills. Due to a continuous modernization program, as well as the support of our business partners and the heads of the Nizhny Novgorod region and Vyksa, OMK continues to successfully develop its production, mastering new wheel products for Russian steel lines and those of foreign countries as well."
