According to Sergey Donskoy these issues are today the most important tasks to ensure the long-term future of the Russian oil industry.

In particular, Sergey Donskoy  said that under the condition of gradual depletion of the traditional hydrocarbons one of the most important tasks was to ensure sustainable future for the oil industry, including but not limited to active involvement in the development of hard-to-recover hydrocarbon reserves. He also stressed that solution of the oil and gas sector topical challenges was only possible through effective cooperation between the governmental authorities, business and experts’ community representatives.

Rais Khisamov, Chief Geologist of JSC TATNEFT, pointed out that one of the main factors for sustainable development of the industry branch was to ensure the resource base. Since 1997, the annual oil production in the Republic of Tatarstan has increased from 24 million tons to nearly 33 million tons.

TATNEFT have managed to stabilize and sustain the growth of crude oil production at the expense of governmental stimulation of the late stage development fields and production of extra-viscous oil, and largely due to introduction of new technologies. Over the past 10-15 years the Company has been using extensively   horizontal drilling, downhole splitters, drilling of horizontal sidetracks, hydraulic fracturing, as well as traditional physical and chemical methods of enhanced oil recovery.

The conference became the most important platform for discussing the challenges in exploration, involvement of hard-to-recover reserves and unconventional hydrocarbons into development, as well as the promising policy of the State aimed at the existing problems solution.
