OREANDA-NEWS. The 149.2 MW power plant built by Calik Enerji in Turkmenistan was commissioned. The plant installed in Lebap, Turkmenistan was opened by the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov.

The 149.2 MW power plant built by Calik Enerji in Turkmenistan was commissioned. The power plant was launched with the attendance of the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov.

President Berdimuhamedov visited Turkmenabad for the opening ceremony of the plant, where he was welcomed with folk dance shows. After being briefed by the officials about the facility President Berdimuhamedov, pushed the symbolic lever and started the first power generation.

Ahmet Calik, Chairman of Calik Holding, stated that the new power plant will generate electricity from natural gas using a General Electric aircraft engine, in his statement to the Turkmen media. "Turkmenistan has not only become a self-sufficient country in electricity generation with these investments, but also positioned itself as an electricity exporter to the neighbor countries. The current progress has been achieved thanks to the broad vision of Mr. President Berdimuhamedov."

Delivering consistent growth since its establishment in Turkey and in other countries of operation including Turkmenistan, Iraq, Libya, Georgia and Uzbekistan as well, Calik Enerji moved from 129th place to 111th place in the "World's Largest 250 International Contractors" list published annually by the Engineering News Record magazine and is listed as the 9th contractor in the global fossil-fuel power plant industry.
