OREANDA-NEWS. August 21, 2014. This matter was discussed at a meeting between Agriculture Minister Vasile Bumacov and members of a French delegation staying on a visit in Moldova. According to the Minister, Moldova is a perfect place to grow essential oil plants and to invest in this branch. Besides, since such plants have long been grown in our country, no large investment will be required to train the personnel, he has said.

For example, in 1986, Moldova produced about 170 tons of essential oil. The oil of rose, lavender, sage and coriander is in great demand in Europe because it is used in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries.

One ton of the feedstock is enough to produce about 4 litres of essential oil, and, for example, one litre of the sage oil may cost EUR 40 to EUR 45, the Agriculture Ministry says. Currently, Moldova is one of ten leading producers of lavender oil. The lavender oil global sales volume totals about 1,200 tons a year, Bulgaria, France and China being frontrunners on this market
